Tying to choose the best car seat for your baby/child can be a daunting task especially for a first time expectant parent.

There are several key factors to consider when selecting a car seat. Firstly, you need to establish what type of seat is appropriate for the age and size of your child. All car seats are universally grouped so you can determine what age and weight they are suitable for;

GROUP 0+: Birth to 13kg

GROUP 1: 9-18kg

GROUP 2: 15-25kg

GROUP 3: 22-36kg

Secondly, it’s important to confirm what type of installation method you can use in your vehicle. Before you start looking for a car seat, you need to establish if your vehicle has ISOFIX anchor points, so you know whether you have the option of considering a car seat that uses ISOFIX installation or whether you will need to use vehicle belt installation.

Finally, give some thought as to how long you would like your child’s car seat to last? Some parents find it more convenient to purchase and use different seats at different stages of their child’s growth (infant carrier, convertible and booster seat) while others prefer to purchase a convertible seat that can be used all the way through from Group 0+ to 3.

ISOFIX is an alternate installation method for car seats. If your vehicle is equipped with ISOFIX anchorage points, you can install an ISOFIX car seat by simply clicking the seat’s ISOFIX connectors onto the vehicle’s anchorage points, without the need to utilise the vehicle seat belt.

ISOFIX is not inherently safer than a vehicle belt installation. While ISOFIX is easier to use correctly every time (reducing the risks related to human installation error), a car seat properly installed with a vehicle seat belt is just as safe.

To find out if your car has ISOFIX points, look for ISOFIX labels between the base and back of your car seats (the fitting points themselves may also be visible) or check your vehicle’s handbook or contact the manufacturer or dealer.

A top tether is an adjustable belt attached to the car seat which is placed over the backrest of the vehicle seat and attached to an anchorage point. A top tether therefore helps to secure the car seat in the event of a collision and hence reducing the risk of injury.

This is a personal decision you as a parent will need to make, however, due to the added safety benefits, it is generally recommended to keep your child rear facing for as long as possible to protect them in the event of a collision.

Rearward facing car seats can be used in the front passenger seat, provided the airbag is deactivated. However, wherever possible we recommend placing child seats in the rear vehicle seats. Always observe the instructions in your vehicle manual.

Yes. Vehicle seat belts are designed to safely restrain adults by falling across the user’s hips and shoulder. Booster seats help elevate older children so that the vehicle seat belt can also make contact with the proper areas of their body (rather than falling across the abdomen or neck as it might if the child sat directly on the vehicle seat. This way, in the event of an impact, the vehicle belt can safely restrain the child.

We recommend replacing any car seat that has been involved in a crash. Even if it looks fine, there could be internal damage that would make it unsafe. Just to be sure, replace the seat. Most insurance companies will cover this expense – to be safe, please request a police report on the accident.

We do not recommend using second-hand car seats as even if there are no visible signs of damage, you never know if the seat has previously been involved in an accident. Car seats that have undergone an impact are no longer considered usable as the structural integrity may have been compromised in the crash.

It is considered much safer to remove winter coats or bulky clothing and rather cover your child with a blanket after they’ve been securely buckled into their car seat.

Yes, the Traveller LX stroller is specifically designed to be a compact and lightweight travel companion. Ensure it is folded and packed entirely into its carrier bag prior to boarding. Due to limited space, some airlines or flights may prefer for your stroller to be checked into the hold rather than taken onboard as cabin luggage.
